Housewife vs Palin, while Republicans wish they were on TV.

A letter from a Wasilla, Alaska housewife regarding Sarah Palin:
Here is a letter from a housewife who has faced Palin when she was in City Council. She fought Palin in 1996 when Palin tried to remove a City Librarian from her job because the Librarian refused to remove certain books from circulation that Palin wanted removed. If you want to read the whole article click the link above (WARNING: It's long, but worth reading.)

Below are some of the bullet points that she provided. Giving the reader an idea on Gov. Palin's history of policy. [Spelling and grammar are all based on original text]
CLAIM VS FACT
  • "Hockey mom": true for a few years
  • "PTA mom": true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school, not since
  • "NRA supporter": absolutely true
  • social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
  • pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.
  • "Pro-life": mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation
  • "Experienced": Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.
  • political maverick: not at all gutsy: absolutely!
  • open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.
  • Has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
  • "a Greenie": no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots.
  • Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
  • fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
  • pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system.
  • Built streets to early 20th century standards.
  • pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents
  • pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla’s history.
  • pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro-union.

VS.

Walter Reed High School vs. Walter Reed Army Hospital. Why doesn't the RNC organize their slideshow photos before posting them up on a giant green screen? How unprofessional is this event?

The moron who arranges John McCain's slide show during his speech does not know how to use google, nor double check their work. How can they not realize that the slide they chose was Walter Reed High School, not Walter Reed Army Hospital.

Has anyone in his staff served in the military? Visited the injured soldiers in Walter Reed Memorial Hospital during his campaign? If so, why didn't any of them remember what it looked like and avoid this mistake. Maybe they just wanted to imitate a TV show (according to TPM) called WEST WING, where a presidential candidate announced his desire to run for president. Pay attention to the building behind this clip and maybe you can recognize it from the picture.

L.A. Times
Talking Points Memo (TPM)

THE PLOT THICKENS:

Now that the story is picking up steam in the blogsphere. The McCain camp sent out a statement claiming it was not a mistake. According to "The Caucus: A New York Times" Political Blog, the McCain camp made this statement:

Not so, according to campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds, who said the campaign intended to showcase “images of Americana” during the Arizona senator’s remarks.

“The changing image-screen was linked to the American thematics of the speech and the public school was simply part of it,” Mr. Bounds said, adding that during the speech, Mr. McCain “called for public education reforms that empower parents and students before bureaucrats and labor unions.”

Yet, the school did not give them permission... nor was the school asked permission to be used by the political party. Then, why did no other slides appear after the school image went away? The high school has actually set up a website to notify the public/parents that the school does not endorse a political campaign. I think they really did make a mistake... they just can't admit their failure... just like in their politics/policies.

Go figure.
